On September 15, both forms move to new editions, and there is no grace period in either direction.

Why it matters more than a form update usually would: September 15 is also the day the duration-of-status rule takes effect, and the day the post-completion grace period drops from 60 days to 30 under the new framework (transition rules preserve 60 days for some current students).

File an old edition on or after the 15th, and it is rejected. File a new edition before the 15th, and it is also rejected. For paper filings the postmark controls, not the day you downloaded the form, and not the day you finished filling it out.

A rejection is not a denial. But a rejection that used to cost a few weeks inside a 60-day window now costs the same few weeks inside a 30-day one. Same mistake, with half the room to recover.

If you have an OPT, STEM OPT, or change-of-status filing landing near that date, the edition date on the form deserves a second look before it goes out.
